“Give Kids A Smile” 2016

Wings of A Dove Foundation and Emmanuel Church of God, with support from a grant from the ADA Foundation, sponsored a day of FREE dental care to the underserved located in Brooklyn, New York. Using volunteer dentists, dental hygienists and volunteer dental hygiene students from New York University, College of Dentistry, the clinic provided dental screening, oral health education and preventive fluoride treatment to patients who lack access to care and usually remains unseen by a dental health professional. Dental education was provided for parents of registered children, helping to remind parents of the importance of initiating good oral health habits and routine dental care early in their children’s lives.

The clinic of this nature was held on February 6, 2016 at the Emmanuel Church of God and provided oral health education, dental screenings and preventive fluoride treatment for 35 children ages 3 to 18 years old costing approximately $8456. Moreover, we were able to refer 15 of those patients to area dentists for on going treatment, eliminating the need for those patients to seek emergency room care for dentistry and receive on-going care.

These on-going FREE dental demonstration projects are the first of many that will occur throughout the year through the collaboration of Wings of A Dove Foundation and the support of the grant by the ADA Foundation.  The importance of oral health cannot be disputed.  Oral health is linked to many conditions including; endocarditis, cardivascular disease, diabetic complications, dimentia and respiratory infections to name a few.

A Heartfelt Thank You to The 2016 “Give Kids A Smile Host, Bishop Curt Courtenay/Pastor Aracely Courtenay, the Emmanuel Church of God Family and Congress Member Jumaane Williams for their support at the GKAS event.
